Rimskins™ will cover most gutter rash; however, if your rims are chipped or cracked, they may be dangerous and you should seek the advice of a wheel specialist before fitting Rimskins™.
-
For rims with existing damage, make sure any rough edges are smoothed or sanded first.
-
The better you prepare your rims, the better Rimskins™ will work. Rim Skins will not come off at high speed if the installation process is adhered too.
-
Rim Skins cannot damage your vehicle in anyway.
-
It is best to install Rim Skins before fitting new tyres, your Rim Skins may get damaged during the Tyre Fitment process. Rest assured that a damaged Rim Skin has potentially saved your rim from being damaged during the tyre change process.
Important Information
-
1.Read instructions before use. Clean wheels first.
2.The performance of this product is directly related to how well you prepare the wheel rim before application. Use a quality wax, grease & silcone remover and cloth to thoroughly clean the wheel rim, pay special attention the edge of the rim where the Rim Skin will be applied. Wait for wheels to dry. The reason we ask you to this is that Tyre Shine products contain silcone that get oversprayed and absorbed on your mag rims. Our product will not adhere correctly if this is not properly cleaned away. So even a wheel that looks clean maynot be.
(Do the tissue test. Wipe the rim with a clean white tissue paper. If it is still clean you are ready to use the Rimskins wipes.)
3. After cleaning the wheel use one Rimskin wipe per rim to prepare the rim surface where the Rimskins will be applied. Wipe in a circular motion folding the wipe on each rotation, inspect the surface colour of the wipe on each rotation, do as many rotations (folding the wipe on each rotation) as possible. NB. Do not wipe back and forward.
4. Use the adhesion promoter pen or nail polish applicator to prime the surface, i.e. the outer lip where the tape will be applied. Do not use primer on Plasti Dip wheels or wheels that have been poorly painted, i.e. non OEM painted rims. Skip this step on Rims where you think the paint will be affected by the primer. Test a small section first if not sure.
5. Wait for the primer to flash off. (Dry)
6. You may now begin to apply the Rim Skin. Ensure the ends of the Rimskins have been cut off squarely.7.Peel 10cm of orange backing strip from adhesive strip.
8.Apply Rimskins from the top of the wheel rim and proceed in a clockwise or anti clockwise direction, removing the backing strip as you go. Avoid direct contact with tape surface.
DO NOT stretch or pull the RimSkin, allow it to follow the rim without force.
• A tip for getting the perfect join- when nearing the completion of applying the Rim Skin around the rim, leave approximately 10-15 cm of orange backing tape on the Rim Skin. Now, get the sharpest & finest scissors you can find. Putting the scissors blade edge against the Rim Skins where you started, dull edge resting on rim and facing edge on the Rim Skin Edge, work the trailing side with the backing tape on through the scissors mouth and snip. Now remove the backing tape from the trailing edge and first place the two ends of the Rim Skins together and neatly line up, now work your way backwards to the position where you stopped on the first cycle around the rim.
• Finish off by firmly pressing the surface of the tape onto the rim, if your wipes are still relatively clean you can use them to clean off the Rim Skins.
9.Firmly press Rimskins onto the rim
10.To clean, wipe over with wax and grease remover and cloth. Note: The adhesive used on Rimskins requires 24 hours to fully cure but is suitable for immediate use. Normal car washers and sprays should not dislodge the Rim Skins, so it is safe to take your car through a car wash. -
Washing your Rim Skins: any automotive grime remover or even household handy Andy will clean your Rim Skins to Show Room Condition. Rim Skins will not fade in the Sun.
-
To remove Rim Skin: gently peel off the Rim Skin by stretching the tape off in small movements by pulling it in a parrallel direction to the wheel. (i.e. pull the Skin in the direction the wheel moves and not toward you) Should any tape residue remain on the wheel, use a adhesive remover and a plastic scraper. Spray the adhesive remover on the affected area and wait a few seconds before starting to clean. A remover kit can be bought on our online store.

MAKE SURE TO LUBE THE RIM SKIN WHEN CHANGING TYRES!
To reduce the risk of damaging your Rim Skins when changing tyres and doing wheel alignment.
This is not a fool proof method but in most cases it will go a long way to saving your Rim Skins. Try selecting a good tyre company with modern equipment and ask the tyre personelle to please apply lube to the Rim Skin's as well as the bead during the process. Run flat & low profile tyres have much stiffer sidewalls than normal tyres, so it may not always work and the tyre changers are not really to blame. The nature of the process does apply extreme force onto the rim and should the Rim Skin become damaged at least it is being a sacrificial layer for your rim suface.
